SIZES
To fit age: 1[3:6:12]mths
Actual measurement: 24[26:28:30]cm (9.5[10.25:11:11.75]in)
Length from shoulder: 25[27:30:33]cm (9.75[10.5:11.75:13]in)
Sleeve length: 16[18:20:23]cm (6.25[7:8:9]in)
Bergere de France Alaska aran weight, 50% acrylic, 50% combed wool (approx 55m per 50g ball)
4[4:5:5] x 50g balls 299.421 Rose vif
Pair 5.5mm needles
Wool needle
4 brown toggles
Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.
TENSION
15 sts and 20 rows to 10cm (4in) over st st using 5.5mm needles.
15 sts and 30 rows to 10cm (4in) over moss st using 5.5mm needles.
Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.
TO MAKE
The cardigan is made in one piece starting at the bottom of the Right Front.
Right Front
Using 5.5 mm needles cast on 19[21:23:25] sts. 
Row 1: *K1, p1, rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 1 forms moss st, rep until piece measures 15[16:18:20]cm (6[6.25:7:8]in) (46[48:54:60] rows) in total. 
Start of Right Sleeve
Next row (RS): (K1, p1) twice (Front border in moss st), k15[17:19:21], then cast on 24[26:30:34] new sts for the Sleeve. 43[47:53:59] sts. 
Next row (WS): K1, p1 (twice) (Sleeve border in moss st), p35[39:45:51], (p1, k1) twice, (Front border in moss st).
This sets the pattern for moss st borders and st st main part, continue to work sts as set until piece measures 21[23:26:29]cm (8.25[9:10.25:11.5]in) (58[62:70:78] rows) in total, ending on a WS row.
Front neck
Next row (RS): Cast off 5[6:8:8] sts, work to end of row.
Continue on the remaining 38[41:45:51] sts until work measures 26[28:31:34]cm (10.25[11:12.25:13]in) (68[72:80:88] rows) in total, ending on a WS row.
Back neck
Cast on 9[11:13:13] new sts. 47[52:58:64] sts. Place these sts on a stitch holder.
Left Front
Using 5.5 mm needles cast on 19[21:23:25] sts. Work in Moss st until piece measures 15[16:18:20] cm (6[6.25:7:8]in) (46(48:54:60] rows) in total, ending on a WS row.
Start of Left Sleeve
Cast on 24(26:30:34] new sts. 43(47:53:59] sts.
Next row (RS): (K1, p1) twice (Sleeve border in moss st), k35[39:45:51], (p1, k1) twice (Front border in moss st).
Next row (WS): (K1, p1) twice (Front border in moss st), p35[39:45:51], (p1, k1) twice (Sleeve border in moss st).
This sets the pattern, continue to work sts as set until piece measures 21[23:26:29]cm (8.25[9:10.25:11.5]in) (59[63:71:79] rows) in total, ending on a RS row.
Front neck
Next row (WS): Cast off 5[6:8:8] sts, work to end of row.
Continue on the remaining 38[41:45:51] sts until work measures 26[28:31:34]cm (10.25[11:12.25:13]in) (68[72:80:88] rows) in total, ending on a WS row.
Start of Back
Next row (RS): Pattern 38[41:45:51] from the Left Front, slip the sts for the Right Front from the stitch holder back on to the needle and k43[48:54:60], (p1, k1) twice.
Next row (WS): K1, p1 (twice), p77[85:95:107], p1, k1 (twice).
Next row (RS): K1, p1 (twice), k77[85:95:107], p1, k1 (twice).
Continue in pattern as set until work measures 9[10:11:12]cm (3.5[4:4.25:4.75]in) (18[20:22:24] rows) from the start of the Back. 
End of Sleeves
Cast off 24[26:30:34] sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
Continue in moss st on the remaining 37[41:43:47] sts.
When work measures 24[26:29:32]cm (9.5[10.25:11.5:12.5]in) (64[68:76:84] rows) from the start of the Back, cast off all the sts.
NECKBAND
Cast on 41[45:49:49] sts.
Work 4 rows in moss st and leave the sts on a spare needle.
TO FINISH OFF
Graft the neckband stitches around the neck, leaving the moss st borders open at each front edge.
Stitch the Sleeve and side seams.
Make 4 buttonholes without cutting the yarn: Using a sewing needle, pick up the horizontal strand of the stitch where you want to place the buttonhole, pull it up and attach it 2 rows higher with a few little stitches on the WS of work. Repeat with the horizontal strand below the first strand, and attach it in the same way 2 rows below.
Place the buttonholes on the Right Front, with the first 1cm down from the neck and the others spaced at 3[3.5:4:5]cm (1[1.25:1.5:2]in) intervals. Sew the toggles onto the Left Front opposite the buttonholes.
